Nature Mandala Gallery

A twist on organic nature mandalas crafted from leaves, twigs, flowers, feathers, and stones found in the wild, my take on the artform starts with a photo. I do take all the photos myself, always on the lookout for leaves, twigs, flowers, feathers, stones, and other bits of nature that might translate well. Since the photos are digital, I’m able to pull them into photo editing software and manipulate them using a manual process that allows me full control over the wedge of photo I select and what, exactly, I do with it. Many of my early pieces relied heavily on color replacement; recently I’ve been letting more true color shine through while adding layering techniques and some digital painting.

Many people notice my nature mandalas resemble kaleidoscopes. This is for good reason, as each includes a mirror image repeated eight times to suggest eight spokes of a wheel. The number 8, being infinite, is chosen intentionally, as is the round shape of the pieces. Each represents the infinite Universe with no beginning and no end.

Creation of these nature mandalas is a mediation practice for me and, although they’re also decorative, I hope others also use them for meditation. There’s peace, light, and a sense of stability to be found in their depths. The nature mandalas featuring photos taken in forested settings (check out the Magical Woodland collections of cards and prints) are incredibly grounding. Those from the Garden Path collections (cards and prints) are vibrant and energizing. You’ll find the light, airy energy of damselflies and the gentle, aquatic stillness of waterlilies in the nature mandalas making up the Mystical Lakeshore collections (cards and prints). My Winter Holiday collection of square greeting cards includes both traditional floral pieces, with bright energy, and woodsy organic mandalas, with more of an introspective bent, to celebrate Christmas, Yule, and the Winter Solstice. As something a little extra special, a bit of my original poetry encircles each nature mandala in the holiday collection. You can find all the card collections here and the print collections here.

If a nature mandala in this gallery catches your eye, know that all of them are available as 12″ x 12″ prints, printed to order in my studio on bright white, acid-free paper using pigment inks. Many of the mandalas are also available in the online shop as high-quality art cards suitable for framing. Peruse the collections and find your favorites, and if you can’t what you’re looking for, feel free to contact me for assistance.

I wish you great joy,

Linda
