Session 1: 10 a.m. – Noon or Session 2: 2 – 4 p.m.
Interested in supporting more birds on your property? Then you’ll enjoy this two-hour guided tour of a single acre that, over the course of twenty-five years, I’ve converted from treeless lawn to diverse bird habitat. You’ll see an established pocket forest, a newly planted native fruit thicket, different approaches to excluding deer, lots of vertical diversity, beds of native plants all grown from seed, garden spaces that are pivoting from traditional plantings to natives, constructed brush piles, some areas that still need work with plans for the future, plus so much more. This will be a guided tour with planned stops and plenty of time for questions.

Appropriate for adults and truly interested teens, with the target age 16 years and beyond. My property is steep and the ground is uneven. It’s a challenging walk if you’re in flip-flops or are unsteady on your feet. Please wear sturdy shoes and attend only if your balance and strength are good. Do I Need to Pre-Register? Yes, you'll need to pre-register and pre-pay online. Parking is limited and I won't be able to accomodate walk-ins.
When: Saturday, June 20, 2026. Pick Session I: 10:00 a.m. - Noon; OR Session II: 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. (Please arrive 10-15 minutes early to park and gather. The tours will start on time.)
Where: 797 Pleasant Hill Rd, Morgantown, West Virginia 26508. (Clicking the link will open up Google Maps to show you the location and directions in a new window.) If you are unfamiliar with the location, please put the address into Google Maps before you head out so you're oriented. Note my house is a small blue Cape Cod as shown in the Google Earth photos but the large white pines are gone and things will look a bit different than what you see on Google. Please contact me before the day of the class if you need help with directions. I won't have an assistant on the day of the workshop so won't be able to help you navigate the day of the class. A few days before the tour date, you will be sent an email with detailed information regarding parking. Please be on the look-out for that email!
Session Size: Each session will be limited to 10 people, so register early.
Liability: Please note my property is small but sloped and quite steep in places. Narrow paths wind around the main garden and there are plenty of hazards to navigate. Good balance and decent leg strength will be needed to participate. Please wear sturdy shoes; closed-toe recommended and no flip-flops.
Cancellation and Transfer Policy: Cancellations with a refund will be accepted through Sunday, June 13, 2026, at midnight with a small cancellation fee to cover credit card charges. Alternatively, you're welcome at any time to transfer your registration to someone else as long as they're at least 16 years old. In case of weather bad enough to make travel to or on my property unsafe, the workshop will be rescheduled and you'll have the option of either attending on the new day or receiving a full refund. Cancellations after June 13 will not be refunded.
