Falcon art card is digitally printed using pigment inks on silky, bright white, acid-free paper. Folded card is 5.25″ by 5.25″ and comes with a beautifully made, bright white envelope. The paper is super smooth, not slick, and takes gel, ballpoint, and other inks well.

The primary photograph of a peregrine falcon used to create the artwork is printed on the back of the card with the photo location and some info about peregrine falcons. Interior of the card is blank.

This piece is a companion to Midnight Reflections, featuring a barred owl named Sage.

About the art. The digital collage on this card, titled Midnight Reflections II, was created from this photo of Amelia, the resident peregrine falcon at the Deep Creek Lake State Park Aviary (Maryland). The photo of the moon was taken at Antietam Battlefield. A second image of Amelia is reflected in the moon, her eyes wide and her gaze penetrating.

Peregrine falcons are incredibly fast flyers, reaching speeds of up to 69 mph while pursuing prey and up to 200 mph when dropping from high elevation in what’s called a hunting stoop. Use of the pesticide DDT in the twentieth century nearly eliminated the species, which had to be reestablished in the wild through captive breeding.

Amelia was named for human flyer, Amelia Earhart, who set many aviation records of her own. Born on Three Mile Island, Pennsylvania, Amelia the Peregrine, was struck by a car and then a snowplow in the northern panhandle of West Virginia, and can no longer fly.
