Bread Basket Workshop
$65.00
Bread Basket Workshop: Just in time for Thanksgiving, weave a reed bread basket with a slotted wood base (4″ high, 5″ wide, and 9″ long). This make-and-take workshop is appropriate for adults and truly interested teens, with the target age 16 years and beyond. Students should be generally crafty, but prior basket-weaving experience is not required or expected. Intermediate and advanced students are also welcome and will be able to work at their own pace.
When? Sunday, November 8, 2026, 1-4:30 p.m. (please arrive by 12:45 p.m. so you’ll have time to settle before class begins).
Where? Maple and Spruce Folk Arts Collective, 688 Beulah Road, Morgantown, WV, 26508 in the Dellslow area just east of Morgantown, West Virginia. Clicking the link will open up Google Maps to show you the location and directions in a new window.) Please put the address into Google Maps before you head out so you’re oriented and give yourself some extra time traveling as Beulah Road is a bit narrow and twisty.
Not Familiar with the Location? Please contact me or Maple and Spruce before the day of the class if you need help with directions. I won’t have an assistant at the workshop so won’t be able to help you navigate the day of the class.
Cost: $65
Bring: Reed is woven wet so you’ll need a heavy bath or beach towel for your lap. Please bring a heavy pair of scissors to cut reed and a pair of needle-nose pliers to pull the lashing through when adding the rim to your basket. I’ll have small awls available to help when adding the rim, but you might also like using a Phipps-head screwdriver (optional).
Provided: 1) All the reed needed to complete one basket; 2) a slotted wood base for the bottom of the basket (finished to repel water), 3) a written sheet of instructions to take home, 4) use of additional tools while in class.
Class Size: The class will be limited to 8 people, so register early.
Please register via the Maple and Spruce Folk Arts website by midnight Friday, November 6, 2026.
