Milkweed Rising Book Shop
Welcome to the Milkweed Rising Book Shop, where you’ll find books written and published by Linda Gribko (L. S. Gribko is the pen name I’ve used.) When I finished writing my first book, Giving Voice to Dawn, I realized I wanted to not only understand the publishing process, but to at least try all the creative bits with my own hands. So, I created a book cover (no AI, just my own photos and creativity), formatted the interior, and created versions for paperback, ePub, and Kindle. I even tucked in pen and ink drawings to give the books in Ellie’s Story a playful feel. I found that I enjoyed every bit of it and now I have my own imprint, Milkweed Rising Publishing.
You’ll find here everything published through my imprint, which so far includes two books in the Ellie’s Story Series, Giving Voice to Dawn and The Lion’s Apprentice. I have several projects in progress, including a final book for Ellie’s Story, a mystical time-travel series in which the protagonist travels back to Civil War era Richmond, and a murder mystery set at an abandoned Victorian-era glasshouse located in rural West Virginia. Although started last, you’ll probably be able to read the murder mystery first, as it’s moving right along.
In the meantime, check out Ellie’s Story, if you haven’t already. I hope it brings you a few laughs and a lot to ponder.

Book One of Ellie’s Story—part bittersweet fable, part ghostly adventure, part historical romp, Ellie’s Story will remind you that it’s never too late to sing your song.
What would you do if a dream invited you on a quest to find your authentic voice? Would you take a risk and step out into a new dawn…or would you roll over and go back to sleep?
Ellie, a denizen of the cubicles of Corporate America, is numbed by an unfulfilling existence and befuddled by a grief she can’t explain. She’s also plagued by a mysterious dream that seems to point toward a long-forgotten mission.
One evening, a hawk wheeling around in a sky set ablaze by the setting sun tempts Ellie to spread her wings and lift herself out of her funk. As she contemplates quitting her job and setting out to discover her true life purpose, a wise mentor with gentle attitude named Mick inserts himself into her daily commute and begins guiding her in the ways of karma and animal spirit guides.
Goaded into action by Mick, Ellie and her quick-witted buddy from work, Neil, become obsessed with cracking the secrets of the dream. They embark on a mystical quest that leads back to the American Civil War and forgotten truths that must be remembered if Ellie is to unravel the mystery of a tragic past that has stolen her joy and muted her voice.

One of those stories that continued to haunt me long after I closed the book.
Everyone needs a “Mick” in their life. Just read it!
Fantastic storytelling. I can’t say enough good things about it!

I’ve just finished the first two books and will watch for the third. I’m having withdrawal- you know, when the characters have become very real and important to you, and their insights are your insights, and you might just text them and say Hey, what happens next?!
I loved the second book of Ellie’s story. After reading this series, I was inspired to tour Gettysburg myself. It brought this book to life even more. If you purchase The Lion’s Apprentice, you’ll be nose deep in the book until the end.
The first book in this series was good but The Lions Apprentice was even better. I loved the Gettysburg history. The magical characters from the past are compelling… scary, funny and insightful. The story keeps you thinking and wondering as it unfolds and the characters evolve.
