Swallowtail Power Mandala Poetry Card

$4.00

This poetry card is a Milkweed Rising exclusive and is printed from an original work of digital art. I created the mandala art on this card from a single photo of an Eastern tiger swallowtail butterfly that I took on Pleasant Hill near Morgantown, West Virginia. This piece absolutely celebrates the power of the butterfly as a Spirit Animal. The life cycle of the butterfly is a metaphor for creative destruction or dying so that we might live again. The caterpillar literally splits open, shedding her old identity as she discards the skin no longer needed. She then dies in the chrysalis to emerge just a week or so later as a beautiful butterfly.

I created the art and the poem, Awaken as a Butterfly, to acknowledge the change of perspective afforded by any deep life experience. Sometimes we do fall asleep as caterpillars, seeing just a few inches beyond our noses, but dreaming of bigger things. The lucky among us awaken to find our wings and the higher and wider view of the butterfly.

This blank card is approximately 5″ wide and 7″ tall (portrait orientation) and is printed on premium 100 lb. white matte paper. A white envelope is included and the original photo is printed on the back of the card.

Linda Gribko is an author, artist, and photographer living in Morgantown, West Virginia. She's known for her wildflower photography and the mandalas that she creates from her nature photos. Her quirky first novel, "Giving Voice to Dawn", was published in November 2016. It's the magical romp of a woman plucked by the Universe from the cubicles of Corporate America and dropped into the crease between "this world and that" where Spirit Animals carry messages, disembodied voices spout wisdom, and you never know who might show up to walk you back home.
