This mandala greeting card is a Milkweed Rising exclusive and is printed from an original work of digital art created by Linda S. Gribko. I created Spirit of Fox from this photo of a pair of mallard ducks that I took at Kumbrabow State Park just south of Charleston, West Virginia. If you look closely at the finished mandala, you’ll see that I captured the indigo blue speculum feathers of both birds. But why, you might ask, did I name this piece Spirit of Fox when the source is clearly avian? The answer lies in the image of a fox’s face that appeared in the mandala as I worked the colors. Fox, you see, carries the energy of adaptability and I shouldn’t have been surprised when he popped up here. I had tried to create a mandala from this photo a year previously and felt the outcome a failure because I couldn’t find strong patterns in the center of the piece. However, working with, instead of against, the limited color palette of the feathers allowed the fox to emerge a year later with his message of every once in a while adapting to circumstances as they lie instead of always trying to force our will.
This blank card makes an elegant Everyday card or Birthday greeting. It’s 5″ wide and 7″ tall and is printed on premium 100 lb. white matte paper, suitable for framing. A white envelope is included. The original color photo and story of the piece are printed on the back of the card.
Please note the watermark shown in the photo does not appear on the printed card.
