Ephemeral Joy Mandala Greeting Card

In stock (can be backordered)

This mandala greeting card is a Milkweed Rising exclusive and is printed from an original work of digital art created by Linda S. Gribko. I created Ephemeral Joy from a photo of a sunflower that volunteered to grow amongst my Brussels sprouts. Yellow, especially this strong shade of gold, is usually associated with joy; however, as I was working this piece, I felt the joy here was just a little bit subdued. The low lighting when I shot this photo had desaturated and flattened the exuberant gold, taking just a bit of the happy edge off and keeping the joy restrained. As I worked the piece, the petals of the flower became more and more tissue-like until they became almost light and layered. This brought to mind the ephemeral quality of joy…it pops up, it fleets, it dodges, it evaporates, only to pop up again, dance around us, and disappear again. I’ve decided that’s fine with me, though, as the contrast between the joyous moments and the not so much makes the happy bits of life that much sweeter.

This blank card is 5″ wide and 7″ tall (portrait orientation) and is printed on premium 100 lb. white matte paper. A white envelope is included. The original color photo and the story of the piece are printed on the back of the card.

Please note the watermark shown in the photo does not appear on the printed card.

Linda Gribko is an author, artist, and photographer living in Morgantown, West Virginia. She's known for her wildflower photography and the mandalas that she creates from her nature photos. Her quirky first novel, "Giving Voice to Dawn", was published in November 2016. It's the magical romp of a woman plucked by the Universe from the cubicles of Corporate America and dropped into the crease between "this world and that" where Spirit Animals carry messages, disembodied voices spout wisdom, and you never know who might show up to walk you back home.
