Purple Petunia mandala, part of a tribute to modernist artist Blanche Lazzell, is digitally printed using pigment inks on silky, bright white, acid-free paper. Folded card is 5.25" by 5.25" and comes with a beautifully made, bright white envelope. Perfect for an everyday note or birthday card for just about anyone. The photograph I used to create the mandala is printed on the back of the card with the photo location and a little story about Blanche Lazzell and her use of floral motifs, including petunias, in her artwork. Interior of the card is blank or choose a message (choices are below). The paper is super smooth, not slick, and takes gel, ballpoint, and other inks well. The card and envelope are packaged together in a plastic sleeve and mailed in a stiffened mailer.

Framing. This card is created using high-quality materials, such as might be used in a museum. The print is sharp, bright, and frameable. To protect the vibrancy of the artwork, I frame using UV glass or acrylic, and I recommend it. About the art. The digital collage on this card, titled Purple Petunia, was created from this photo taken at the West Virginia Botanic Garden in Morgantown. As part of a summer 2026 exhibition of Blanche Lazzell’s white-line woodblock prints, petunias joined other bold annual plants in a recreation of the artist’s iconic Provincetown, Massachusetts, studio garden.

A native of Maidsville, West Virginia, Blanche Lazzell (1878-1956) was one of the state’s most influential artists. Best known for her modernist woodblock prints, Lazzell produced both abstract and two-dimensional figurative works composed of simple lines and blocks of color outlined in unprinted write. Petunias were one of her favorite botanical subjects and figured prominently in works such as The White Petunia (1932) and Red and White Petunia (1948). Lazzell harvested and sold packets of petunia seeds from her studio garden for thirty-five cents each. “Seed money” was used to host teas for collectors of her work.
